Group Differences Learning Log

Today we learned about group differences. We talked about different cultural backgrounds and how we need to be sensitive to there cultural. We discussed many things that we can do to help children with different backgrounds and languages. Some of the things we disscussed that we could do would b to try and talk to the parents about any special accommodations their child might need. We could have the child teach us a little bit about their background. We talked about how we as teachers have preconceived ideas about children be for we get to know them.
This topic is important to me as a teacher because it allows me to understand that we are not the only culture that we need to worry about in our classrooms. It allows me to think about what I would do if I was in a situation were their was a student in my class that had a different background and needed help so that they could learn to the best of their ability. This lesson showed me that I will need to do research on my children's backgrounds so that I can help them.
With this information I am going to try to get as much information about my students as I can. I am going to research children's culture if I need to get more information. I am going to make my classroom one were kids will feel comfortable expressing themselves for who they are. I am going to be willing to accommodate children's feelings and lifestyles so that they can get the best learning experience possible.
